In Thailand, there are very few hospices and hospitals to meet the increasing need for palliative care. To have a peaceful death, the dying need to be free of the physical pain that accompanies their illness. For example, the dying need very little food and water -- if any at all -- in their last days. There are also very few hospices and hospitals to meet the increasing need for palliative care as Thailand's population ages. An important part of a peaceful death is to save relatives the guilt of feeling they did not do enough to help.
